The author

Claudio Nuzzo is a musicologist, lutenist and teacher. He holds diplomas in guitar (Verona Conservatory) and lute (Parma Conservatory) and graduated with honours in Musicology from the University of Pavia’s School of Palaeography and Musical Philology in Cremona, with a dissertation on John Dowland’s First Booke of Songes or Ayres, from which this book derives. As a lutenist he has recorded two albums of early seventeenth-century repertoire, including Kapsberger’s Libro IV. Since 2007 he has taught at the Antonio Stradivari Institute in Cremona, where he is also responsible for digital learning and European projects. His interests include the relationship between words and music, Renaissance culture and lute performance practice.
